  • Anybody know a good free sync program?

I've been looking for some time for a good sync app, tried many, but so far I haven't been able to find one that works

It shouldn't sync to some random server some random place, it just needs to be able to sync locally in a specific way:

I have two folders (wow, who would have guessed ), one of them is on a HD in the PC (Let's call it C, the other one is a HD somewhere on the LAN (Let's call it Y

It should automatically copy all files from C: to Y: whenever there's a new file in C:. If I delete a file from C: it should delete it on Y: and the same when I rename. If there are files on Y: that are not in C:, they should be deleted (this is the case here), but if I delete a file on Y:, it should automatically get copied to Y: again

I have tried many of these sync tools, but for some reason only few of them has the option to actually delete files in Y: that is not present in C:. One of them just couldn't delete the files, it kept on saying that it successfully deleted the files, but it didn't. The other one I found that had this option took too long time to compare files. When I tested it, it said it needed 2 days just to compare

Anybody here knows a good app that could solve my little problem here?

Thanks, but that's the one that doesn't know how to delete. It keeps on telling me that it had deleted the files, but it doesn't

That's strange, it's always worked fine for me - maybe it's running with the wrong permissions on the remote computer? Try running it as admin if you haven't already done so. Are they both running the same OS? I've had it work fine with one computer running Win7 and one running WinXP, but if one is running Linux or something then things might go awry.

The only other utility I've tried is allwaysync, but it screwed up the file names during synchronization.

The other HD is a Goflex Home network drive from Seagate. PureSync had all the required permissions

I've been using PureSync, per Loin's recommendation, and it works fine, even with deleting. Not now though, since both PC's are more than 12000 km away.

But it used to work fine, even deleting the duplicate file after I renamed one on one end of the backup. Maybe take a look at the settings?
