To reiterate: nobody gives half a **** that this guy is skipping his IRR commitment. The IRR exists because the mandatory term for all military enlistments and officer contracts is 8 years, but the military doesn't need people for that long, so it shoves 'em in the inactive reserve and forgets about them. I'm pretty sure the only 8-year contract is for Army National Guard officers with a certain type of ROTC scholarship, and that's 8 years drilling monthly on weekends.

        I refudiate that nonsense.

              Corporations?
They are doing it for your country. They sacrifice their lives to make millions like you to have their every day's life of fat and arrogant imperialist blood suckers. His majesty Dollar isn't secured by gold, but by military might. It's not about corporations, but about politics and imperialism. Corporations are just a part of the system. It's quite simple.

During the war, IRR guys were being called up. Enlisted USMC-R usually do a 6-2 split with 6 years reserve drilling and 2 IRR; from my understanding, USMC-R officers do 8 years drilling. I could be wrong on that but it was the impression I got.

There's a whole website and facebook page with these guys with such messages (when did this whole taking a picture of you holding a sign of text come about? The 99% thing?).

This one was funny. Wonder why MrFun didn't put this one up:

                    Spoiler:

Maybe Oerdin can tell us if there's something else called 'indoctrination' in the Army but I assume Army indoc is like Marine Corps indoc which is the first 1-2 weeks of basic training.

This guy (with his American flag upside down) seriously went AWOL 2 weeks at best into basic?

Why do they look like this? Look at this guy with a backwards baseball cap, his blouse unbuttoned, his collar popped, and an out-of-regulation t-shirt. Jesus. If you have beef with the conduct of the war and not the military itself, as these people seem to want to portray, why would you degrade the uniform? Shouldn't you want to present the best image possible of you and your service?

They're hardly modern-day General Smedley Butlers.

They're fat losers who played too much Halo, and now they're criminals and keyboard warriors.

Some of them claim multiple deployments and served in combat, but when you got guys like those two who went AWOL in the first year (or even in their first two weeks), it's like **** you idiot.

Like seriously what did the boot camp AWOLer even see at basic that made him go from voluntarily signing up and swearing in to going all anti-war? Signing up is not even a spur of the moment thing; you have a lot of paperwork to sign, you take the ASVAB, you get a full medical physical done at MEPS, you wait for medical approval, you get approved, take an oath, and spend a couple months in delay-entry... Dude had all the time to think about it before he ever put on that uniform. But apparently wearing it for 2 weeks and getting yelled at made him go AWOL? I saw his comments, too, when people reamed into him. He said he had an Other than Honorable discharge. I bet. For those that don't know, OTH discharge is the worst discharge you can get short of a court martial.

If this movement wants any legitimacy, they need to throw those guys to the curb hard.

If you joined the military after the Iraq War started and then complained about the war you are a ****ing idiot, it's that simple.

edit: also it would be hilarious if someone thought the anti-war movement had leaders who could officially "excommunicate" these idiots and "throw them to the curb hard".

They let them put their pictures up on their facebook page officially. They could easily take them down/not let them do it.

Jesus USMC commitments are long. My AROTC contract (which I haven't signed, and won't for a year or two) is a 6-2 split as an officer in the Guard. Enlistments in the Guard are often 4-4 I think.

I think something like 20k people have been called up in the IRR over the last 10 years. Totally population of IRR is pretty big so I don't think that's a huge proportion.
