While it would be awesome, it's only a pipe-dream. I only player Panzer General for like ten minutes back in the day before I said, "oh, this blows" and going back to CivII, but I don't remember it containing anything like what I described. Perhaps it would work if we added on a horrendously cluttered and fugly interface and had a repetitive cutscene every time your warlord swung his axe?

Yes, but we all knew that already.

No. But that is a problem of the AI, not the game design.

But even then it is less boring than 4 where always it boils down to:
Lets build a stack of 30 units (at least half of them ranged) and walk through the opponents realm

For me the only real problem with 4 was the Ai's over reliance on seige units.

the AI is part of the game design, in fact, in a game like civ it the most important part of the game design.

Alpert should be banned for bringing on topic stuff into the off topic! It's only fair!

At least in 4 you could lose a city to the computer. In 5 they don't even try.

You guys should go over to Realms Beyond and set up a few BtS PBEMs. BtS is still evolving as a game, whereas Civ 5 is devolving...

Play By Email? Eww Who does that? One turn, send the save file in an email, they take a turn, send it back, you take your turn, etc. What decade is this?

Hell much of the time the process of exiting the game, e-mailing the file, then starting the game back up and loading the new file after their turn would take much longer than the turn itself!

We averaged two turns a day at the start and then turn a day after about turn 40. Turns out to be generally faster than pitboss until you have more than 6 players.

Opening up steam and waiting for Civ to load just to play one turn... Civ games that literally last years. yeah where they do that at again?

I guess if you really want to play with someone in particular and your schedules are completely incompatible, you have no choice, but for multiplayer gaming in general, it's a terrible system.

Is that standard multiplayer for Civ? I've never played a Civ game multiplayer and I am intrigued by it but the turn-based nature of the game makes it seem like it would be ****ty online.

You used the clever trick of mentioning something outside his immediate sphere of personal experience. That stuff keeps him away like kryptonite.

Siege units were pretty much essential for every stack. Wasn't the standard strat to have at least one siege unit for every other kind of unit?
