Yes. Most rap is really formulaic.

I posted an interesting article on here before about the missed opportunity at historical significance of the first commercial rap hit, 'Rappers Delight'. I'm sure you've heard it but the song has no structure. It's rapping over a continuous breakbeat loop (actually, the song was recorded with a live band playing the same thing for ~12 minutes) and has no chorus structure. The author remarked that while songs that broke the pop mold, established in the early 20th century, had previously had some popular acclaim, Rapper's Delight, by being the harbinger of a new genre of music, had the potential to revolutionize but music but rap quickly fell for the pop standard. In fact, groups like Run DMC owe a lot of their success to instantly recognizable choruses.

I already made my argument. I used the IPA pronunciations. How the **** can you tell me that syllables that share the same sounds aren't forms of rhyme?!
"waste" does not rhyme with "ache" or "race". Only in the Albyverse do those syllables have the same sound. "Sun" does not rhyme with "tongue" or "love", if that's what you're implying.

        Let's look at the IPA:

        Sun: sʌn
        Tongue: tʌŋ
ʌ then an 'n' family sound.

        Waste: weɪst
        Race: reɪs
        Ache: eɪk
eɪ but then the fact that they all share the -ing strengthens what would be a questionable case with race/ache by itself. With the same vowel sound in the first syllable, then the shared -ing in the second, you have a perfectly good correspondence when using racing and aching. Plus, wasting and racing have the benefit of also sharing the s sound.

Thank you for showing they don't end in the same sound and don't rhyme.

Thank you for proving my point again. "s" and "k" are not the same sound at all. "s" and "st" are not the same sound either.

            Look at vowels, dumbass.

I guess the International Pronunciation Alphabet was created in the Albyverse.

Or you all just plain don't know how to pronounce English words.

yeah i'm obviously familiar with rapper's delight. it sounds as if the author (without having read the article admittedly) is overstating the potential for revolution. people like pop songs, that are a certain length and have a certain structure. what happens is that record companies see what's hot at the moment in the 'underground' and think 'how can we take those sounds and ideas, put them into a 3 minute pop song and make a killing'. just about every new genre, no matter how different or ground breaking it appeared, that has come along has been moulded into pop music after some time.

t and k are similar sounds. Aching and Wasting.

g and k are similar sounds. Gaff and calf share the hard g and k sound as well as the rest.

                gadget casket magic are rhymes.

****ing say the words out loud and you will hear the similarity of the sounds.

Same vowels is called "assonance", not rhyming. You even used that word a while back. Were you hit on the head between then and now?

True that. Rapper's Delight was actually 14 minutes and 37 seconds which is absurdly long for a pop song. The shortened single version was reduced to 4:55, still long but actually capable of radio play.

ASSONANCE IS A FORM OF RHYME!!!

But they're more than assonance. The n sounds in sun and tongue are very close. Racing and Wasting both share the hiss of the s. etc. etc.

                        You have incredibly low standards.

You have incredibly dumb standards if you can't say gadget casket magic outloud and not hear the obvious similarities of sound.

Sorry but I think Elok is right, it sounds like you're trying to do actual rhymes and failing and coming up with weak "rhymes" because you don't know what you're doing.

They don't rhyme. If their similarity is sharing a vowel just call it assonance.

that's certainly an important factor. you want to break the mould but you still want to get your record played on the radio...
