  • Arby's gives kid the finger.

And by finger I mean a real human finger in his sandwich.

Teenage Boy Finds Finger in Arby’s Sandwich

Ryan Hart, a 14-year-old boy from Michigan, had a rude surprise when he bit into his Arby's roast beef sandwich. "I was like, 'that's got to be a finger,'" he told the Jackson Citizen Patriot. "It was just nasty."

Reportedly, a restaurant employee cut off her finger with a meat slicer while preparing the meal. She left her station to deal with the emergency, and other employees, who were unaware of the injury, continued to complete the order.

"Somebody loses a finger and you keep sending food out the window," said the teen's mom, Jamie Vail. "I can't believe that." She added that following the gruesome discovery, her son was "traumatized," couldn't eat or sleep, and had been prescribed medication Fox News reports.

John Gray, Arby's vice president of corporate communications, provided Yahoo! Shine with a statement saying, "Arby’s wants to reassure customers that we are committed to providing quality food in a safe and healthy environment. We are deeply concerned and apologetic to the guest involved in this unfortunate incident....An isolated and unfortunate accident occurred in a franchisee’s Jackson, Michigan restaurant in which an employee was injured. Upon learning of the incident, the franchisee’s restaurant team shut down food production and thoroughly cleaned and sanitized the restaurant. The franchisee fully cooperated with the Health Department during the investigation, and the restaurant was given the approval to remain open."

This is not the first time human remains have been found in a fast food meal but this case might be the most extreme.

    - A Dayton Ohio man sued Arby's in 2005 for reportedly serving him a chicken sandwich topped with a piece of human skin.

    - In a famous 2005 hoax, a Las Vegas woman found a human finger in Wendy's chili but police later discovered she had cooked her husband's colleague's finger (which he had lost in a work accident) and slipped it into the bowl herself.

    - An Albany-area man allegedly found a bloody bandage in the crust of his Pizza Hut pie in 2011.

    - Also in 2011, Texan woman found blood on her French fries while eating at a Houston-area Crackle Barrel.

"Somebody loses a finger and you keep sending food out the window,"
How about, "Somebody loses a finger and you STOP EVERYTHING AND LOOK FOR EMPLOYEE'S DETACHED FINGER WHILE CALLING 911"? Is that so difficult?

I notice the article says nothing about the what happens with the employee afterward.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

So it was an inch long and a quarter inch thick, and they did shut down the place.

A Michigan teen finishing off an Arby's roast beef sandwich chomped down on something tough that tasted like rubber, so he spit it out.

It was the fleshy, severed pad of an unfortunate employee's finger, apparently.

Ryan Hart, 14, told the Jackson Citizen Patriot on Wednesday that once he got a good look at it, he knew right away what had been in the junior roast beef sandwich he was eating last Friday.

"I was like, 'That [has] to be a finger,'" Ryan said.

The employee apparently cut her finger on a meat slicer and left her station without immediately telling anyone, said Steve Hall, the environmental health director for the Jackson County health department. Her co-workers continued filling orders until they found out what had happened, he said.

John Gray, a spokesman for Atlanta-based Arby's, released a statement Wednesday apologizing for what he described as an isolated and "unfortunate incident." He said Arby's is still investigating, but has determined that the Jackson workers shut down food production as soon as they found out what happened and thoroughly cleaned and sanitized the restaurant.

The injured employee was treated at a hospital. Mr. Gray said the franchise has fully cooperated with health officials and was given the approval to remain open.

Ryan's mother, Jamie Vail, was incredulous. She and her friend, Joe Wheaton, had taken Ryan and his 11-year-old brother to the Arby's drive-thru and she told the Citizen Patriot she thought her son was joking when he exclaimed he had found a piece of a finger in his sandwich.

"Somebody loses a finger, and you keep sending food out the window? I can't believe that," said Ms. Vail. She and Mr. Wheaton said the severed section was about an eighth to a quarter-inch thick and at least one inch long.

Vail said she called 911 and met police at a local health center, where her son's blood was drawn and he was prescribed some medication.

Ryan said he is feeling fine. Vail told the paper she has been in touch with a lawyer, but hasn't decided whether to pursue the matter.

There have been a number of incidents in recent years in which a restaurant worker's accidentally severed flesh found its way into someone's food.

Are you a Helicopter Parent? Take our quiz!

In 2006, a diner at a TGI Friday's in Indiana found part of a kitchen worker's finger on his hamburger. The year before that, a North Carolina man bit into what he thought was candy in his frozen yogurt only to find it, too, belonged to a worker who had had an accident with a food-processing machine.

There have also been hoaxes, including one perpetrated by a Nevada woman and her husband, who claimed in 2005 that she bit into a severed finger in a bowl of chili she bought at a Wendy's in San Jose, Calif. Both received lengthy prison terms after admitting it was a hoax. Wendy's said the bad publicity cost it millions of dollars in sales.
Arby's apologizes for the accident in which part of a worker's finger was sliced off and served in a roast beef sandwich to a Michigan boy.

Yeah, I'd stop everything to look for the finger hoping the doctors could reattach it or something.

No doubt their lawyer told them to say that as it would look better for the lawsuit which is to come.

Continuing with the lost body parts theme we have a man who's penis had to be amputated after a botched penis implant surgery due to an infection by flesh eating bacteria. The poor bugger should just kill himself now.

Man Loses His Penis to a Flesh-Eating Bacteria After Failed Penile Implant Surgery

A man is suing one of his doctors after a surgery that was supposed to improve his sex life resulted in the loss of his penis.
Enrique Milla, 65, suffered from erectile dysfunction. Common enough! But when the usual drugs didn't solve the problem, he decided to get an implant in his penis as a last resort. A few days after the surgery, a gangrene infection set in, and a flesh-eating bacteria slowly and painfully consumed his penis until there was nothing left.
Milla has to sit down to go to the bathroom now. His dreams of having sex are gone. He will never make love again. Horrible.
Milla filed a malpractice suit in Florida against one of the doctors who treated him because, apparently, erectile dysfunction wasn't his only medical problem. (Milla has since been deported to Peru and testified via webcam.) Fox News reports that Milla hadn't been to the doctor in 15 years. He had high blood pressure and very high blood sugar on the day of the surgery. His lawyers allege that the anesthesiologist glossed over these facts and failed to check Milla out before he went under the knife. Milla, they say, never should have been allowed to have surgery.
On the other hand, his doctor claims that Milla is to blame because he didn't take proper care after the surgery. He says that Milla was so excited about his new penis that he ran off and had sex right away against his doctor's orders.
Sure, it seems like Milla's lawyers are right that he never should have had the surgery, but he also doesn't seem like the kind of person who took very good care of himself. And the outcome of the case seems pretty minor next to the fact that the guy lost his penis to a flesh-eating virus.

It is cute that Gizmodo does not even grasp the difference between bacteria and viruses.

It was just a piece of skin and pad. The worker who was cut may not have immediately realized a piece was missing. But, yes, she should have said something so that blood from her cut wouldn't be served to customers.
