Not too long ago, I watched ROTJ for the first time in a while. When I got to the final fight scene, where Luke screams "no" and starts thrashing around while the OoooOoooOooo choral music plays in the background, I felt horrible. Even as a kid I thought he looked awful undisciplined in that fight, and I guess that's the point, that it's a wild attack, but damn. He never even comes close to hitting Vader. He beats up a number of railings and floors, looking like a flailing muppet in the process, and at the end Vader sinks down awkwardly to one knee without Luke even touching him. It's the worst choreography I've ever seen. *I* could have beat Luke in that fight.

While there are good arguments for Luke, I voted for Yoda.
Luke was powerful, but he never underwent a formal education as a Jedi-Master (aside from the brief crash course by Yoda).
Therefore I am sure he misses a lot of the techniques and knowledge that had been developed by the Jedi order over the course of numerous centuries.
So, while he was strong in the force and (after ROTJ) was partially able to make up for his lack of education/knowledge by inventing his own techniques, I think that his lack of knowledge is still too big, to be considered to be equal to Yoda and the other Jedi Masters of the old republicTamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

It's much easier to learn something than it is to invent/discover it. So that is also in Luke's favour.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth
