  • Anzac Day

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    We will remember them.
"Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi
"I have nothing against Wilson, but he's nowhere near the same calibre of QB as Flutie. Flutie threw for 5k+ yards in the CFL." -Ben Kenobi

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

Wait, ANZAC Day and Armenian Genocide Day are on consecutive days? Shouldn't we be spacing our Turkish victory celebrations out a bit more?

It's always nice for countries to commemorate your birthday with a public holiday - it's a pity so many people had to die to make it possible...

Especially when it's your country that sent them off to die.

Veterans were among Sydneysiders targeted by overzealous parking officers before dawn on Anzac Day, says NSW RSL President Don Rowe says.

Drivers parked near the Royal Botanic Gardens and The Domain early on Wednesday morning so they could attend the Sydney CBD dawn service.

But at least ten of them returned to their cars to discover fine notices had been tucked under their windscreen wipers.
