A service-orientated country will never be a power. Never. Why did the North beat the South in the War Between The States? Manufacturing > Farming (service industry).

Farming creates a good, not a service. Services are intangible, while agriculture creates something that is tangible. The South was screwed because it was reliant on exporting a cash crop and was blockaded, and because it had a much smaller population.

The distinction between goods and services is kind of ambiguous but farming is pretty clearly on the goods side.

Where do crops go? To a grocer. It's still a form of retail. I tell you what, call it what you want. A factory driven civilization will beat down a service and/or agriculture civilization every time.

When has a factory driven civilization ever had the opportunity to beat down a service economy? And remember, the factory made goods are sold in stores, so it's a form of retail, so manufacturing countries are wimpy service countries too.
