      You're right.

Right - the suicides of some of the bullying victims had nothing to do with the fact that they were bullied.

So bullies should be free to threaten someone else with physical violence under free speech?

If they killed themselves because of "cyberbullies" then they were victims of negligent parenting.

Assault is already a crime, MrFun. Bullying is not assault.

I'm not talking about just cyber bullying - I'm also talking about bullying that happens in-person.

Laws against assault are a violation of our freedom of speech.

Again, victims of negligent parenting. I would guess that most kids are bullied to some degree in grade school. Very, very few commit suicide.

No, they're not. Don't argue against straw men.

Assault is a form of coercion. It creates a chilling effect, forcing people to obey you on threat of violence. Violence doesn't actually have to occur for you to have harmed someone. That is the principle of assault. Honestly, at least make a minimal effort to understand this stuff.

A parent tries to teach lessons, that hopefully include how to deal with ANY bullying. To expect a parent to be there 24/7 and know all things as they happen is asking for a little much.

And MrFun, don't let emotions and/or commitment make you say stupid things. It detracts from the point that you're trying to make.

Could it have been encouraged by all the attention other kids get when they killed themselves.

Ignore suicide. Paying attention to it only makes it worse.
