I am so over the whole Hunger Games thing. My tweener daughter harrangued us unmercifully until we relented and allowed her to read the series. All the while we got minute by minute updates... Ohhhh Peta loves Katniss, No Gale loves Katniss, Ohhh Rue got killed ... boo frickin hoo.

No way in hell am I going to see this or allow my daughter to see it if only for my own sanity.

No? The entire premise is ludicrous to begin with. The book isn't interesting because of social commentary, and it isn't supposed to be social commentary anyways. You're just seeing what you want to see in it.

You should reflect on the fact that your attacks on your perceived political adversaries have degraded to point where you are accusing them of believing it would be good to bring back slavery and dictatorship.

I was miffed that District 9 didn't proffer up a ghetto alien and a racist South African as their tribute.

Everyone who sees a social commentary in this book sees something that magically matches their political perspective. The only consistent observation that can be made is "dictatorships are bad". The premise is just a giant excuse to do a sci-fi rendition of Theseus and the Minotaur. Jesus christ.

This is perfectly fine--once you get into the arena, it's about how the characters cope with being in a ****ty situation. The problem with the next two books is that it's more about the sucky excuse setting.

Not everyone believes that dictatorships are bad, though.

Looks like you aren't terribly eager to take my advice on self-reflection, idiot.

"Well CLEARLY this book is a comment on how the CEOs of Goldman Sachs and General Electric really want to usurp the US government and institute a dictatorship."

Slavery and dictatorship would serve the interests of the wealthy, would it not? Why do you think slavery and dictatorship forms of government has existed for most of human history until recently?

                        Yep, you're deranged.

"Obviously people who are in the 99th percentile of income, BY VIRTUE OF BEING IN THE 99% PERCENTILE OF INCOME, are universally bereft of morals or ethics and furthermore believe that it would be good for them, their friends, and their children to replace the US government with dictatorship. How could they have become rich otherwise?"

Look, man, your claim is idiotic. The book isn't about politics. It's just not.

I liked it better when Richard Dawson was the games host and they had hockey players with chain saws.

Pretty tame childish crap really, but then that was the target audience after all.

Battle Royale, which this clearly rips off, pisses all over it!

I thought the movie was ok. You miss a lot of little things from not reading the books, like all movies from books, but it was still alright.
