  • I am in Madrid, it is a weekend eve and I am bored out of my ****ing skull

Amazingly enough, people here don't speak English well. I failed to make any local acquaintances that are relevant to partying/drinking/nonsense. Tomorrow I'll do the whole Prado and walk-around-town-take-pictures-maybe-buy-the-gf-some shoes-cause-I-am-a-baller-like-that routine, so

Are there any non-neckbearded polytubbies that are interested in stirring **** up?
Alternatively, a place like a pub or a nightclub where the fact that I am a foreigner wouldn't be too eye raising?

Go out and drink some sherry - the spanish are pretty good at making that stuff. The main problem is to find one you like, but it'll get you reasonably drunk
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

you're in Spain and you're drinking beer???

Dude, seriously. Get the sherry. Find a cask of Amontillado. Anything.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Sadly, I've never boozed it up in Madrid. But Madrid is mostly a nice place.

The Centro neighborhood is an interesting place to walk around. Plaza Mayor should be a stop. Depending on the weather, have a bit to eat there at one of the extremely expensive outdoor cafes. Puerta del Sol is near there too, so hit that. Look at the outside of the palace.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

When you advance in the hierarchy a bit and they stop sending you to little known backwards cities like Madrid, we'll have a beer in Zagreb.

Az, you give the impression of being a man of the world and you can't make your own fun in a foreign city?

Madrid is ****ing awesome! Plug yourself into the local Couchsurfing chapter. Sorted.

Actually the problem was that I was too tired to get off my ass, and did not have the heart to admit it. No biggie, next day, I killed it. Next week was much better, esp. Italy. Florence owns.

Madrid's OK, not high up on my list of favourites though.
