Do you know what it is? Do you use it? Is it useful?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

    Yes, yes, and yes.

I have heard of it, but never used it.

It's a great networking tool. It displays peoples employment history, allows you to leave people recommendations based on their work, and lets you market yourself to a wider job market. There's also some really good industry specific discussion groups on there. It's not something I log onto every day, but it's very useful at times.

Its a great networking tool for technical people. It's also great to keep track of people that move on or get laid off.

I find it useful to keep track of where people you know (e.g. client contacts and work colleagues) now work and how you can contact them.

Approximately 90% of the headhunter phone calls I get are based on my linkedin profile (including the one which ended up getting me the new job I took).

Anybody in a high-skills profession with a competitive job market is an idiot if he doesn't have an up-to-date and detailed linkedin profile.

                    Thank god I don't have a high-skills profession.

I use it, as do most of my present and past associates.

                            This.

I get at least one serious headhunter a week through LinkedIn. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Apple, investment banks, etc. High quality leads that are very valuable if you ever need them.

So far I've seen GOOG and AMZN recruit bank quants. Not MSFT or AAPL.

GOOG and AMZN pay salaries competitive with associate-level BBs...
