Only 45 years to their Iridium anniversary!
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

It seems to me that I remember seeing something not to long ago on mitchondrial research that was leading to the same result. Although I would love to live a much longer life, it pleases me no end that my kid may outlive me by 1000 years.

Who wants to live forever if that forever is to be spent on this planet? I hope to be released, to meet my maker and thank him in person for the gentle crib, and then to set off across the stars, all the Universe my destination, and to look back and see the lives of my beloved here on Earth until we are rejoined on some sunny day when all hardship and trials that formed us are past, if that term applies.

However I have no complaint if you folks choose to live out the next thousands of years within your skins, if that's what you dream of, good luck.

There is no evidence that dead people go on living so that they can fly around the universe at the speed of light and join their loved ones in some eternal paradise. Good luck getting your wishful thinking fulfilled.

Diseases have been able to wipe out a significant percentage...particularly in North America.

How much is a significant percentage?

Saw this, decided to read DaShi's post--

From what I remember, as much as 75% of native Americans were wiped out by introduced European diseases. That's catastrophic to any civilization. Happy?

He mentioned civilization, so "humanitarian" it is.
