Credit is given where credit is due. KH picked the winning end of the bet and I'm happy to pay him off with something suitable.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

You would not know it today, but at the time, the futures markets put the price in May 2011 at about $64. So we were taking more or less even bets. Believe it or not, I was pretty confident about my end of the bet well into 2010.

The price of oil has had one of its longest streaks of high prices lately. It's worth pointing out that the price of oil was $11 a barrel 14 years ago. I have very strong memories about the low oil prices.

I would like bet DanS $1 that by end of day, tomorrow, I won't have an additional $10,000 in savings.

All that has to be done to win this bet is to wire the money overnight to an account of my choosing...

              Just think about it...

Here´s a new bet for you KH. I´ll bet you we´re headed for a market crash sometime in the next three months. It should be about 50-50 for that time period. On the one hand, markets have been going up relentlessly since the end of November. On the other hand, volume has seriously dried up. There isn´t enough liquidity to prevent a free fall.

If you win, I´ll PM you what I do (and must be terrible at, if I lose this bet). Pick something for in case I win.

lets say a period of 7 days, wherein at least one day has been -4%, and overall paper loss of at least 12% over the course of those 7 days. let´s take the DAX as a measuring stick.

The gamble should be if KH wins, you have to tell us what your ****ing PhD is in.

Well, that makes the bet more sensible

For a moment I assumed you were a standard yanky with an expectation that the oil price always would be low and would allow the existence of 5 km/l cars forever

Being 52 y.o. I too have some memory of low oil prices but I must admit that a triple or like wouldn't bother me much.

EDIT: Kudos for remebering the bet
