Of course I was going to quit but with the military downsizing, I was not selected for this past January OCS class (only 1 person from the Philly/NJ region was selected). My OSO does not think the summer is realistic even as a reserve contract but he feels confident in my chances in the October class. That would mark exactly 4 years since I first signed up for the Marine Corps and stood on those yellow footprints at Quantico.

It sucks. Have the past 4 years out of college been a waste? Maybe. But I want to do this.
Why didn't you just do ROTC in college?

You're the one cheering Israel attacking Iran. You're the one posting about nuking Iran.

I just want to do my part for this country and help the lives of people in Afghanistan, Haiti, Somalia, or wherever the military is needed.

I was rejected because of some silliness I did in my senior year of high school. It's irrelevant now.

You couldn't stoop to Naval or Army or Air Force ROTC?

It's only a problem when you lose.

I made $3000 off an initial $200 wager betting on the Giants in the playoffs this year.

The Marine Corps does not have ROTC. You can do a Marine option through Naval ROTC.

It was Army ROTC I applied for way back in 2003.

See this is why I know I don't have an addiction. I don't get a thrill from it. If I feel anything, it's some worry and anxiousness.

I bet on the Giants because I believed in them. I bet successfully (at first) on the Seahawks and Jets because I believed in them but lost all my profits when they lost.

I believed in C, BAC, and AIG in January 2009 enough to gamble on derivatives... we all know how that turned out.

I'm with Thoth. Wiglaf's stories were more believable. I miss Wiglaf.

Explain the capital gains loss. how many wash sales did you rack up? Also touting gambling wins is a sign of gambling addiction. I was very succesgul at football spreads. But it was all consuming and I was using joint money with my wife to do it . ive reformed a bit but I still take risks.

By now even you should understand the Marine Corp doesn't want you as an officer, they don't want older guys and you're now approaching your late 20's so you're close to your military sell by date. If you're that dedicated to the military enlist and you can always try for OCS after you become an NCO.

When you win you gain money. How is that a problem? There's only a problem when you lose.

I said it. Long on C, BAC, AIG, etc. calls.
