  • US Unemployment Rate Falls to 8.3% in January

Obama is up to a 56.9% chance of getting re-elected on Intrade

    edit:
Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 243,000 in January
So no, the unemployment rate didn't fall because people got tired of looking for work, they actually found jobs

This is excellent news. Hopefully, we are finally starting to see true job growth, but I'm skeptical this will continue for the next few months.

This is good news! I sure hope this trend continues, but I have my doubts. Still, 243000 jobs created is a reason to celebrate.

They didn't necessarily find jobs. They may be out of benefits and they be working as some drive through cashier because they have to do something. All the bridge space is full.

HC, just keep going to school.

Guy, if you couldn't find work in medicine for some reason and went to work at McDonald's in desperation to feed your wife, would you feel employed? You'd feel under-employed.

Maybe, although the second link did say that the average hourly earnings rose by a few cents.

Let's hope it gets down to around 7% by late summer.

I wouldn't be too proud to take a job as a cashier if it was all I could get.

Great news. I look forward to Obama running on his economic record.

The unemployment rate will likely stay above 7% until 2015. It will also increase to 8.9% at end of this year and hit 9.2% at the end of 2013 based on CBO forecasts.

Yes, there certainly is a difference, and thanks for restating my position. What I'm talking about is the people who lost their career and now have a job, and those that don't even have a job. I'm talking about the increasing number of tent cities. You think people with "jobs" or those living in tent cities are reflected in unemployment figures?
Of course you don't think that. You're a smart man. You know better than that. What you don't seem to understand is that McDonald's would never hire you.
