The land in itself not. The people that live on it OTOH...

No, we need to mitigate the acceleration of climate change.

Land has changed throughout history, well before man was a contributing factor.
But I do agree that the simple things we can do to increase energy efficiency should be done. And even some of the not as simple things. But making extreme changes are still up for discussion. Will they work, and at what cost?

We do that here and the power companies raise our rates to reflect the decrease in their revenues.

Or like here, where they propose massive rate increases so they can improve the infrastructure so we can best determine how to use less energy. Use less, but pay more.

We can do better: the power companies charge the increased CO2 cost to their customers while still being subsidzed for them...

We need to look at the net change in value of real estate. Has any accounting been done to see if the value of the lost real estate will be offset by the higher value of sub-arctic land that thaws out? How many productive acres of farmland will Canada and Russia get out of this climate change? What about the economic benefits of coastline where none existed before?

Maybe Pittsburgh will be warmer and suck less

Are we really gonna stop burning fossil fuels and feeding the vast majority of the planet so a few subsistence fishermen on atolls in the north pacific can continue to be subsistence fishermen in the north pacific?

You joke, but this is exactly the tactic the power companies intend. Most power companies were very vocal in their support for cap and trade. Paricularly if they had the opportunity to leverage any amount of CO2 free generation to sell for additional profit $'s.

Excelon, Entergy, Duke all stood to make out like bandits and lobbied accordingly.
