KH doesn't speak French. Even bilingual people in Quebec don't speak French. They speak Quebecois if anything, which is mocked fiercely in real French speaking countries.*

* according to my colleague from France who forces people here from Quebec to speak to him in English because he "wants to punch them when they destroy the beauty of the language".

And to be the wiseguy around here, Magritte based himself on a quote by Van Bruaene: "Ceci n'est pas de l'art", written down on a sign he hanged up on the front door of his Brussels gallery (the 'cabinet Maldoror').

Art snobs criticised his exposition of the then unknown painter Constant Permeke, dismissing it as childish pencil drawings. Van Bruaene also ran a bar in Brussels Magritte used to frequent. A while later Magritte used the reference in one of his own works, more precisely the one Fve Crathva posted in this topic
