Newt and Negativity: C’est Ne Pas Une Attack Ad

I get the Foucault reference, because I was a liberal arts major, but I'm pretty sure that's poor French.

In case they edit it later.

Editors are a luxury in today's world. Most publications share an editor called "spellcheck" and it's every bit as effective for them as it is for the rest of us.

Just for grins, Google Translate says: une annonce d'attaque.

So at least they got the gender right.

It's a relief that they got the gender of "Attack ad" correct, but I think that's just a coincidence.

I haven't taken French since elementary school (I switched to Spanish in middle because the French language sounds like a congested duck), but I think it's "n'est-ce pas" or something like that. Sounds like "nest-paw."

                Bad French, it seems.

KH doesn't speak French. Even bilingual people in Quebec don't speak French. They speak Quebecois if anything, which is mocked fiercely in real French speaking countries.*

                  * according to my colleague from France who forces people here from Quebec to speak to him in English because he "wants to punch them when they destroy the beauty of the language".
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

I don't get it, are we assuming that they're stupid because they put "Attack Ad" instead of whatever the French term is?

I put "C’est Ne Pas Une Attack Ad" into the translator and got "This is a Do Not Attack Ad". I guess Felch was right about it being bad French.

Should be "ce n'est pas" IIRC. Thus, "Ce n'est pas un annonce d'attaque."

But it could be idomatically OK in French. Not sure.

And Asher is right about the feelings of the French on Quebecois. They refuse to even call it French.
They are nearly as scathing about the French spoken in Switzerland.

I believe either (ceci or ce) is acceptable. I think of "ceci" as referring to one of two (ceci/cela = this one/that one)

But whatever. I don't want to get into an argument over French. I haven't used my French since around '02.
