  • Does getting a helemt for snowboarding make me a *****?

I don't want to get a severe concussion. I may or may not already have already gotten one.

What's a little brain damage as long as you look cool while getting it?

If you're snowboarding around lots of rocks and trees then you ought to wear a helmet. If you're snowboarding on groomed slopes then you're a ***** for wearing a helmet.

Then the obvious answer is yes you probably need to wear a helmet regardless of how it makes you look.

Some resorts have already made helmets mandatory out of fear of getting sued. Other resorts are offering discounts to people who agree to wear helmets.

That's kind of odd - the only two ski/snowboard fatalities I've ever witnessed would not have been prevented by a helmet (as in, when you hit a tree at full speed it's the massive shock / broken neck that kills you instead of the concussion)

(By "witnessed" I mean that part of the ski slope was closed because somebody hit a tree at full speed and broke every bone in their body - I didn't actually see the corpsification take place)

Did you forget to wear your "helemt" before you posted this thread?

                      ACK!

                        Exactly! Post concussive syndrome?

No. My mom's a ski patroller and she will tell you that you look a lot dumber when you've got a head injury. ALWAYS wear a helmet. It can make many otherwise fatal or debilitating injuries turn into nothing more than a scratch or bruise.

For the record, she would not even go on the bunny hills without a helmet. Even experienced skiers can make a mistake anywhere--or get hit by another skier.

I went for the wannabe cool non-helmet route and after landing on my head a few times would recommend helmets for the win.
