  • Torpedo IPA

Not bad for a bottled beer. Very professional, yet distinctive. 7.2 ABV, so I'm a little drunk after a sixer in the last 3 hours. Well done, Sierra.

Also, I recently had Fuller's London Pride for the first time in a couple of years. Pretty good, but a bit cloying after the first 3 pints.

If you like IPAs then you should try Sculpin IPA by the Ballast Point Brewing Company. Yes, it's a beer from San Diego but it is rated as the best IPA sold in America by BeerAdvocate.com.

The thing which has really interested me lately is how all the breweries seem to also be producing their own spirits now as well. Small batch gins, vodkas, rum, whiskeys, and who knows what else. The micro brew industry has gotten pretty crowded (hell we have 50-100 different breweries which bottle their own brews just in this city so there are no doubt tens of thousands around the country) so many of the breweries are trying to branch out into new product lines as a way to increase revenues and profits. Now it's not just each place making dozens of different beers as well as still more seasonal brews because now they're making spirits, specialty hot sauces, BBQ sauces, bread made out of spent grains, and all manner of beer or spirit flavored condiments.

most microbrews are ****. I try new beers and spirits sparingly. The likelihood is that they will suck far more than the things I've already decided I like.

And you're afraid to try new things. You're getting more conservative in your old age, man.

Fact: any rational optimizer will try new things less as he experiences more and has less time left in life.

Only a douchenozzle hipster will conspicuously continue at his previous pace for appearance's sake.

Or maybe they just like trying new things. You easily still have another 40-50 years to go so why stop trying new things and let life pass you by? If you don't watch out you're going to end up as the old man who always goes to only one restaurant and always orders the exact same thing.

Trying new kinds of beer is setting a pretty low standard for "trying new things" IMHO. Maybe he should try joining a cult.

Try some Badger ales if you haven't already. Also Hobgoblin.

I liked Hobgoblin though I haven't had it in about 5 years. Never had anything called Badger ale though.

Badger is the brewery trading name.

That's a pretty good rationalization of a pervasive cognitive bias.

Torpedo IPA is pretty decent stuff. And for microbrews. Oerdin is like a stopped clock, but this time he's right - you are missing out.
