I put down 2. I will not punch old gypsy women, just in case.
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

Superstition, as used on the internet, typically means "whatever I personally do not happen to believe in and therefore find ridiculous." Which is basically what Imran posted. I think such a use basically renders the word meaningless, or reduces it to a high-and-mighty insult, and therefore reserve it for its more common meaning of a very simple system of beliefs about certain actions/events leading to good or bad consequences (with the exact cause of said consequences unexplained). I.E., basically what Loin posted about black cats. Sort of a folk pseudoscience.

In my daily life, I'm not superstitious. But, I do believe if an announcer says, "he hasn't thrown an interception in 3 weeks, missed a free throw, field goal, etc., that almost immediately a miss will occur.

Or, if I bet on a game, that team will lose.

        ACK!

          Where do ghosts fit in?

They don't seem to fit the definition Loin offered of a supernatural causality--they're more of an unverifiable belief concerning the afterlife. I suppose if you believed breaking a mirror would bring down bad juju because it irritates the ghosts, that might count as a superstition, but the general drift here seems to be idiosyncratic ideas about the consequences of our actions.

I tend to wear my Red Wings or Wolverines or Tigers stuff whenever a big game is being played, but other than that, nothing. That's probably a 1 or a 2.
