  • Stay Classy, Europe. Dutch magazine calls singer Rihanna 'ni**ab*tch'

A Dutch magazine has drawn fire for calling Rihanna "the ultimate nigga*****." And yes, it's just as offensive in context.

Parlour has a screenshot of the article in Dutch fashion magazine Jackie, and the English translation, which is both racist and extremely dumb:

She has street cred, she has a ghetto ass and she has a golden throat. Rihanna, the good girl gone bad, is the ultimate nigga***** and displays that gladly, and for her that means: what's on can come off. If that means she'll be on stage half naked, then so be it. But Dutch winters aren't like Jamaican ones, so pick a clothing style in which your daughter can resist minus ten. No to the big sunglasses and the pornheels, and yes to the tiger print, pink shizzle and everything that glitters. Now let's hope she won't beat anybody up at daycare.

Some readers were understandably upset about Jackie's use of a racial slur, so editor-in-chief Eva Hoeke issued an unsatisfying apology. On Facebook, she wrote,

While the author meant no harm — the title of the article was intended as a joke — it was a bad joke, to say the least. And that slipped through my, the editor-in-chief's, fingers. Stupid, painful and sucks for all concerned.

    Then she added,

Furthermore I hope that you all believe there was absolutely no racist motive behind the choice of words. It was stupid, it was naive to think that this was an acceptable form of slang — you hear it all the time on tv and radio, then your idea of what is normal apparently shifts — but it was especially misguided: there was no malice behind it.
    Stay classy, Netherlands.

How many Philadelphians do you suppose have used the term "nigga *****" this year?

None, they'd have to be literate to do that.

And of course I love how what Philadelphians do absolve this Dutch editor. So classy, Loinburger.

I of course love how you criticize vast swathes of the world on the flimsiest of justifications in order to help distract yourself from the fact that you live in a ****hole.

"Some random Dutch dude used a racial slur? Thank god I live in Philadelphia where these things never happen!"

Hate to break it to you loin, but Philly is actually pretty nice compared to most of the world. As much as we denigrate it, it isn't actually a "****hole".

In the meantime other posters criticize an entire country of 300 million people (the United States) on fairly flimsy justifications, such as "some guy in texas did something stupid", and you don't get on their case for it. Let's just accept the fact that guilting an entire country or continent for an individual action is a poly tradition.

Compared to the entirety of the Netherlands? Bull****. If he were saying "Some dude in Senegal said something racist, shame on you Senegal" then I wouldn't be so quick to call his town a ****hole.

When has this happened recently? I'd gotten the impression that pretty much everybody but Speer had grown out of this.

It's one thing if somebody does this **** rarely or occasionally, but Speer can't go a week without posting a "somebody in X country said something racist, so that entire country is racist" thread. (Last week it was the UK that was racist because of some lady on the subway) So, until he stops his one-trick ponyism, I'm going to continue to call him an idiot.

This is hilarious - an eurpean writing this and it's racist - an american negro african saying the same, it would be a phraise.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

That's because it wouldn't have 400 years of racism behind it.

I agree with chegitz and Alby here. Most of Europe stinks when it comes to racism, and especially anti-semitism.

I also understand most of you will now support European lefties in their fight against a system that produces racism now.

As an aside, "Black Peter," depicted in the OP, has only been an actual black person for a couple of centuries; originally, as in other Germanic countries, he was a captive devil.
