We helped the Shah stay in power, yes. Unfortunately for both us and the Iranians, it seems we didn't help him enough. File that under one of the many foreign policy failures of the Carter administration.

Why shouldn't it? It's not as if the Iranians have any say. What's the difference between an American imposed government and an Ayatollah imposed government? Let's not pretend the current regime has any legitimacy.

When we have interfered in Iran, it was either to prevent Soviet influence or to stop them from exporting terrorism or build nukes. Nothing I have said contradicts history.

And I would disagree that they have a strong grasp of history--their government is full of holocaust deniers.

This is what the Persians see, with regards to history:

I know an Iraqi refugee. All in school they were taught about how great Iraqi history was, going back to Sargon of Akkad, and how they were all heirs to the greatest civilization in history and Iraq would rise again.

Recent history was all slanted as well. There was no Coalition in the first Gulf War; it was just America picking with Iraq.

Likewise, I think the legacy of 40 centuries looks down upon the Persian people

That's even more pathetic than French people hanging on to their notion of the "lingua franca".

Examples to support your position please.

~230 years of America vs ~2600 years of Persia.

We as Americans don't have the weight of a historical national legacy as great as Persia's.

HC doesn't have to chops to make statements like that alone. Since he can't back them up, he never will.

Quite a lot of Iranians like living under the system they have. Quite a lot don't, but either way it's still absolutely nothing to do with America either way.

I think you just showed that someone else doesn't have a particularly strong grasp of history either..

Setting up the shah as absolute ruler is something they are still pissed off at the US & UK about.

Yeah, well I hope they like their new absolute rulers better than the one we set them up with.

Times we have ****ed with Iran:

                            1. Setting up the Shah at the UK's behest (you monsters!)
                            2. Try to get our guys back from their embassy when they were kidnapped (oh, what a horrible thing for us to do)
                            3. Fund their war with Iraq..and also fund Iraq at the same time
                            4. Try to bribe them to stop funding hezbollah (did not work out so well)
                            5. Attempt to stop them from getting nuclear weapons

If I'm missing anything here, please, feel free to fill it in.
