I'm white, Az. I consider myself white, I'm white based on the American definition used on employment applications, and while I am often mistaken for being Puerto Rican, I get called white a lot. Actually, I've noticed it depends on my hair length. A fade and I'm Spanish; my current length of hair and I'm white.

I don't know if other white people consider me white, though.

Nope, you definitely look more like a "Spanish" person.

Ironic, and hypocritical, that the author of this article talks down to "White People" while lecturing them on "racism."

Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

Um, yes, actually. Look up "racism"

He's drawing a blanket statement about "white people", categorically rejecting the arguments of said "white people" because they are not black. Now let's play a little game:

Is there a fundamental difference between these two scenarios? (hint: no)

Yes there is a significant difference between a member of a racial group who have spent the last several centuries being kept as subhumans and being horribly oppressed complaining about still negative attitudes of the former dominant group, and some white people complaining that the nasty black man is being mean to them.

Having lived in the South all of my life I can tell you that racism exists. The interesting thing, however, is the almost (but not entirely) universal way that it is tied to socio-economic status. Nearly all of the business people I know could not care less what race or gender someone is. However, when you get more into uneducated or uninformed people, then you start to see racism being a huge topic. Funny thing is though, that even at that level, the acts of racism are very seldom. The South has a way to go yet, but the progress in my life has been nothing short of amazing. It would be nice if we could just waive a magic wand and racism be gone, but that, unfortunately, is not very realistic.

Now, I have been to the Northeast many times in my life. There it is a lot different story. People tend to play more lip service to racial equality there while I have seen many instances of acts of racism.

As a country we have miles to go, but fortunately we have come many miles. In time, and with continued focus, I think racism is on its way out in the U.S. Until such time, discussions like the one the author of the article supplies are relevant to the debate.
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

Its not racist, but if you can look at it without feeling a bit uncomfortable then i'd find that worrying.
