At the federal level? There's close to 700 congresscritters IIRC. Bump the salary up to something they won't laugh at and you're looking at another billion dollars on the deficit at minimum. I don't think it'd improve the quality of applicants at all, let alone enough to be worth it.

Maybe we should have some campaign finance reform instead of calling it "free speech" when only millionaires can are able to become congresscritters.

Most congressmen don't finance their own campaign. They're millionaires because you have to be to be able to afford two houses, one of which is in one of the most expensive areas of the country. If we paid them more, we'd probably get better congressmen.

          -Free healthcare for everyone
-No more two party system, lots of smaller parties
-A cap on new home construction in Bellingham until all existing neighborhoods are infilled to 10 houses per acre
-new fair tax system without loop holes
          -End the Federal Reserve!
-Legalize all drugs and eliminate the FDA
          -Open borders
          -Eliminate electoral college
-More bike lanes in the dense, residential areas, and cross walks in the Roosevelt Neighborhood.
-Increase of public transit and lower fare while developing an electric rail/light rail system in order to decrease traffic and traffic accidents, and lesson our carbon footprint
-A push towards a progressive and constructive rehabilitation program for the Whatcom County prison/jail inmates

there's lots of reasonable stuff in there. lots of stuff we take for granted in the civilised world too.

And where do you get CEO of Wal-Mart making $100K? They said 4x lowest paid worker... what do you think minimum wage is? It's $7.25/hr. Times 40 hours times 52 weeks... $15,080/year. You're talking CEO's making $60,320
In Washington it would be $176,000 a year.

            ACK!

Or if you mean Europe? Yeah, that economy is really booming.

If you don't want to live on Earth right now the only hope is becoming an astronaut or really rich and both of those are hard to do, duh. If you live a little longer then we will start to see "space tourism" become a normal thing. But if you don't want to wait then there is always cryogenic stasis.

"Parliamentcritters" in Nigeria get the equivalent of about US$2 million per year from salary, expense fiddling and lurks (but not counting bribery, theft and criminal sidelines). That is way more than US congresscritters.

Umh. If I had to choose, I'd much rather put up with US politicians over Nigerian politicians. Any day. No. Higher salary does not necessarily mean better politicians. There certainly are other factors at play. (I'd prefer our idiot Aussie politicians over over Yankistan or Nigerian pollies ).

Yeah, I know this is but one isolated example, a "selected instance".

Governmental paid education and increase of public transit sound like some of the more reasonable arguments as well.

But I definitely had to laugh about their immediate demands for modular toilets/showers and first aid tent, so that they are able to continue their protest for an indefinite time
