  • I would not want to live in a world where tighty is not righty and loosey is not lefty.

Such a land would be a nightmare place of constant tightening and loosening confusion.

Maybe it would be okay if, in that bizarre world, the word for "tight" rhymed with the word for "left," absurd as it might sound to our English-attuned ears.

    So true.

I've been in hotels whose bathrooms use clockwise for the cold faucet and counter-clockwise for the hot faucet. I hate them.

I just assumed that the Chinese don't know any better.

I can't imagine living below the equator and having to relearn the rotation of the water in the toilet.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

I seem to recall reading somewhere (Straight Dope?) that the toilet-water thing is a myth; the Coriolis Effect is too slight to be noticeable, and most toilets inject water at an angle that would overcome any natural predilection anyway.

Righty-loosey stuff tends to be really awesome though. Table saws and brush cutters

                    Yes, it is a myth.

And any people you see demonstrating this on the equator, are charlatans who angle the bowl slightly to create the effect.

What, by going out, selecting a toilet which doesn't inject the water at an angle, installing it if it isn't installed already, testing it, uninstalling it, flying it a couple hundred miles north to, say, Colombia, installing and testing it there?

Yes, I suppose I could. But why on earth would I want to?

A toilet is a crap* test vessel, because of irregular shape etc.
