        No. Party unity in the US congress is actually relatively weak.

            Democrats appear to have weaker unity than Republicans because their coalition is much less homogenous. GOP views are closer together, whereas the Democrats have groups that are often at odds with each other, e.g. unions, Hispanics, and environmentalists often disagree. However, the amount of control the party is actually capable of exercising over members is about the same.
            If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?
