  • My philosophy of thread design.

The last thing I want to do is offend someone, but I do want to stimulate conversation. The more people who are engaged in the forum, the livelier conversation will be and the better our user experience.

So I have put together some threads that are slightly provocative. My theory is that people like to talk about themselves (as I am doing here, and very much enjoying doing so) so I try to ask a question in the thread to draw responses.

But I might not be quite up to speed on the culture of the forum, so my ideas for topics aren't resonating. Apologies if I've offended you or hurt your eyes or brain. Do you prefer informational threads, or question threads, or confessional threads, or some kind of thread I haven't thought of?

Mods, we used to have a two thread per day limit. WTF happened?

Oh, and mojo, I'm not offended, I'm just ornery.
    John Brown did nothing wrong.

Mojo, you're being thoughtful and polite. Around here, that's like painting a target on your back.

I don't understand why if you want posts, you'd make new threads? That's a lot more work than just posting in an existent thread.

Yah, we should just have one big thread, it's not like there's much in the way of variation on our conversations anyways.

Fact: 30% of Apolyton threads at some point end up discussing me.

We have threads on the first page that haven't been posted in for four or five days, and yet people are complaining about new threads being started? What the ****? Let's just close down the off-topic forum while we're at it, that way nobody will be able to start new threads and we can all just pack up and go home.
