Mitt Romney: 'I'm Not Looking To Put Money In People's Pockets'

If you're looking for some extra spending money, don't ask Mitt Romney.

The GOP candidate-- who once had a hard time finding a bill in his wallet that wasn't a $100-- told an audience that "I'm not looking to put money in people's pockets."

Romney's claim came in the middle of discussion of his economic plan at a campaign stop in Iowa. After skipping the Iowa Straw Poll this summer, he is taking a more aggressive approach to the state now that its primary is looming.

Romeny has touted his economic policies as beneficial to the middle class. Pointing out that they involve large corporate and estate tax cuts, one audience member asked, "It doesn't put any money in my pocket...how will this help the middle class?"

"I'm not looking to put money in people's pockets," the GOP hopeful replied. "That's the other party."

That's right folks, if you like having money then Mitt Romney is not your man, you should vote for the Democrats instead.

He's trying to build the image that he isn't a populist pursuing harmful policies for the sole purpose of currying the support of the stupid and naive. It doesn't surprise me that this approach baffles you.

He claims to like Modern Family. I don't see how it's possible. It stands for everything he's against: mixed-race families and gay marriages/adoptions.
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

Any politician that doesn't want to leave people more prosperous than when they take office is a ****ing idiot quite frankly. As for not wanting to appear 'populist', considering Mitt is a multi millionaire who has never had to worry about such trifles as feeding or housing his family, I don't think he's ever going to have that worry.

I don't think Mitt Romney has a problem with gay people or mixed race marriages.

I don't think you understand his meaning. He means he isn't going to just give you a government handout. Obviously he's in favor of increasing American prosperity, he just doesn't believe the government is the vehicle to do so, unlike Obama.

Is he against those things now, or has he changed his mind again?

I don't think even he understands his meaning considering he changes his position on a near daily basis.

Uh, no he doesn't. He's had a reasonably consistent position for the last four years. It's also not unusual for anyone, especially politicians, to have minor changes to their philosophy over several years.

Obviously Mitt's guilty of a bit of waffling, but he hasn't waffled in any significant way during this campaign, the way Kerry did. His message is also not putting much importance on social issues, and social issues are not important to many republicans or voters in general. The noisiest republicans demand fealty to all the positions of the party, but the silent majority of conservatives right now just want improved employment and fiscal discipline.

So he wants to get elected so he can do nothing at all?

I think the general idea is twofold: roll back bad government policies, and prevent the village idiots (such as the NLRB) from doing more harm.

He wants to lead the nation so he can 'not break anything' is what you're saying? Wow that is inspiring.

It's inspiring when for the last two or three years you've had someone who is intent on smashing most things he lays his eyes on. At least from the perspective of conservatives.
