    Why wouldn't they?

Thank you ... what about a suggestion or did Google really corner the search engine market?

The only one I can think of is Yahoo.

You realise google has ALWAYS had ads? Every search result you've returned for years has had ads and paid search results at the top?

They've got a chromebook ad on the front page now. First ad I've ever seen them have on the front page.

The reason I switched to Google from Yahoo back in the day is because Google was all about the search. They've really gone downhill in that regard. It's something like 20% of the screen above the fold (average resolution) is left to search results now. There's just no other option that isn't worse. Too bad.

The funny thing is, if you have a website that has that much advertising above the fold, Google will penalize your site in their search. Their policy on site quality essentially says that their own search results are not good enough for the searcher to be presented with.

In the past they've also made arguments about how it was important that the advertising was kept out of the results column, right before they put their ads at the top of the results column, and affiliate ads are often mixed into the search column with pictures to draw the eye now.

They of course can do this, they've just been very two-faced about how they've done it.
