  • Anyone know anything about WW2 uniforms?

These were photos my grandmother had. They look like Wehrmacht uniforms but is it possible to determine anything about them like unit, rank, etc.?

My grandmother's brother to the back with grandmother and great-grandmother seated:
    gm,ggm,guncle

    Same great uncle:
    guncle2

    guncle

And lest you think my family were all no-good Nazis, my grandfather (right):
    gfather
    gfather2

Anyone know what that insignia on the collar is?

Unit & rank for Wehrmacht would usually be on the shoulders, which you can't really see in these pics unfortunately.

The bottom one has me really interested though, don't recognize that collar badge at all. Going to keep looking.

Osprey Books do a good series on military outfits and elite forces, etc.

I see that your great uncle didn't hate dogs. I guess he was a better man than you.

My grandfather was in the Polish II Corps, if it helps, so that should be a Polish exile uniform.

Ahah! Lancer pennons! Could be mechanized units or whatever by WW2. Shame we can't make out the colour.

              http://flagspot.net/flags/pl%5Elpenn.html

*edit: looks similar in colouration to the 'Lance Pennon, 19th Lancers, Polish Army' although it does say 'Several other regiments had this style of pennon, with different color combinations.'

                Here's some more..

It does look like the 19th or maybe 7th Lancer Regiment are closest though.

Ok, neither appear in the II corp order of battle, so I'm leaning toward 2nd Warsaw Armoured Division. Seems that pennon is also similar and that beret badge could be the winged arm with the sword.

I found out. 7th Lubeski Uhlan Regiment. I assume that means Lancer? If so, good job, kentonio.

So it was a mechanized recon unit, probably?

Oh and I don't know if they were already an armoured car regiment during Fall Weiss but they were when they fought at Monte Cassino.
