So I met with some people at USF today. The first two were great, and made me think this was doable, then I met with the director since the other two couldn't fully answer my questions. Bottom line: USF doesn't really have professional/industry candidates in their program. They even have their little committee to discuss how they can attract more. Of course the reason why they can't get anyone is obvious: they're ****ing ******. I wanted to beat the **** out of the guy in the first 30 seconds. Long story short, they won't take into account professional experience at all, and would even make me take remedial programming courses like their beginning Java course. On top of it, they don't have courses at night...not even for their masters program. When I pointed out that people who are working wouldn't be able to go to a course in the middle of the day he simply reiterated that they don't really have any professional candidates. I don't think I could stomach that school again anyway since it is quite possibly one of the worst schools in the US.
I'm thinking a masters in CS is out of reach at this point. Not because I can't do it, but because I would have to take way too many courses and I can't really justify the expense and time for what I get in return. Thoughts on career path? I need something to focus on besides my job. Thanks.
