Dodger dogs are just regular hot dogs in a different shape. Really long and really thin with almost the same volume as a normal hotdog. Nothing special really other than they cook faster because they're so thin (thus the reason for the shape).

But a lot of people consider them special. Of course there are a lot of things that people in LA think are special that normal people laugh at.

Petco Park has some good Diego Dogs; they're basically a Hebrew National wrapped in bacon, cooked on a flat iron stove, and then dressed like a Sonoran Dog. As a hot dog you eat at a baseball game they're pretty good. Way better than a Dodger Dog.

In Diego most of the press seems to go for the fish tacos.

I suspect it is all just marketing. I mean the Dodgers have to do something to convince people to pay $8 for a hot dog.

Yeah, that's true. Believe it or not the fish tacos at Petco Park are actually pretty good though no where close to the best in the city. They're still $4 which is over twice as much as any where else but they're a good value compared to a Dodger Dog. ')

Yelp says Red Hot Lovers in Ann Arbor has closed down. I guess they weren't that good after all.

Pink's is from L.A. It's kind of the classic go to place for a hot dog if you're in L.A. or O.C.. The place has been around since the 1930's and they sell long thin hot dogs like the Dodger Dog but they use natural casings and custom grind their own meat so they turn out much better then the over processed synthetic cased Dodger Dog.

                        I luv bison hot dogs

cant have 'em any more, but they're delicious - and probably better nutritionally

Why can't you have them any more? I was under the impression that bison meat was lower in fat and cholesterol compared with beef.
