    • No it doesn't.

You don't know much about protestantism.

What you say might be true of one branch, and not another.

Neither is at all true of Adventism, although it is true that Adventists did take a while to 'relearn' some things that traditional Protestantism had known for a while.

I actually think that that Protestantism has added more to theological understanding the last 300 years than Catholicism.

You realize that Catholics don't fetishize the Bible the way Protestants do, right?
        John Brown did nothing wrong.

What has Protestantism added? That Rapture bull****? A bunch of nonsense about Jesus turning water into Welch's? Protestantism, where it diverges from Catholicism and Orthodoxy, is nothing but a tragedy of error.

          • See, you don't have a clue. You could start with Luther and most importantly http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sola_fide .

This has been developed in the years since, as well. But this is one of the most important understandings in Christianity (to Protestants).

I am not saying 'you haven't a clue and Catholics are wrong'. I am saying 'you don't have a clue about the intellectual development and history of Protestantism, which is mostly based on the same people that Catholic intellectual development is based on).

You realize that not all Protestants are evangelicals, right? Oh, I'm talking to Albie so of course you don't.

Here's a hint: Most main line Protestant groups don't believe that. Hell, some of the main line Protestant groups (like Anglicans) are hardly different from Catholics other than they don't believe in Papal Supremacy or Papal infallibility.

              • Yay, so now we have TWO atheists telling Al he's got his head up his bunghole on this one, in addition to all the Christians.

Felch, are you a practicing Catholic who believes all that, or are you just yanking the ol' Protestant chain here?

I'm sure plenty, if not the vast majority, of mainline Protestants would agree with me. I don't think it is super controversial to state that the Bible was written by flawed humans (because it was!)

This gets 10 million Amens (and I'm usually the one defending the Catholics when Protestants pile on).

This indicates a lack of understand who Karl Barth, Dietrich Boenhoffer, C.S. Lewis, N.T. Wright, John Stott, Brian McLaren, etc, are, or what they have written.

Yeah, you're not a True Christian™ unless you feel confident in your ability to interpret 2000 year old texts correctly without any assistance or expertise.

Sola Fide is a classic example of the errors of Protestantism. The Apostolic Church (Catholicism and Orthodoxy) recognize the necessity of faith, but doesn't reject the equally important requirement of good works. If you want a scriptural basis for that, check out James 2. "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

You're welcome to claim it as a Protestant contribution, but understand that it is error, just like that rapture nonsense, and all the anti-alcohol idiocy.

                          • Plenty of Scripture asserts that we do no need to do anything for salvation - that God's grace is enough and the concept of "earning" your way into God's grace is a huge fallacy that Christians have been correcting ever since Paul's been writing letters to churches .
