Would you guys take a person some experinced with concrete? I'm not an engineer yet, but would be close enough after the fall.

We have Asher for that. Sorry, HC, but you won't be selected when the apocalypse comes. I, however, will be in the priority group, because the future's gonna need a lot of porn.

No, Asher fills the spot of Token Gay Person. Besides, he's in the frozen hinterlands, he doesn't need rescuing from the apocalypse, he's already there.

gribbler, I don't know what I did that made you hate me so much (as it's apparent you're trying to go beyond your ordinary insulting self to attack me), but you really don't know me well enough to pass judgement.

If I were to judge you by what you've said here, I'd think you were a combative twit college student who likes to argue long past any point of reason and who can't construct anything more rhetorically complex than a farcical snipe. But I'm willing to bet that off the internet you're a normal agreeable person, or at least I'd like to think that.

I don't hate you, I just don't see why anyone would need you in a post-apocalyptic situation.

I suppose it's possible that the way you post on Apolyton is some sort of alter-ego, but I don't see why anyone would want to pretend to be a spoiled brat on the internet.

I'd like to add that off the internet, I'm even less normal and less agreeable.

There are some people that you won't want around inan apocalyptic world. You think you know them now but when there is no earthly authority you will learn their true nature. ... No, I don't know. Did anyone else read The Stand by Steven King?

Europe is truly ****ed. Has been for some time.

Greece is just a symptom, maybe the final catalyst. Who is to blame anymore? It isn't Greece's fault our government just decided to up some bail out money that is given to some EU fund (not controlled by us, and really is an investor), 14 billion euros. This money is meant to save some of these countries, first Ireland, now Greece, later Italy, perhaps Spain, Portugal.. the list goes ****ing on and on. Southern Europe simply doesn't have their finance together and the north end up paying for it.

To me it's like communism, where some parts are harnessed to do a task, and while they are doing it, they are being sucked dry. Except no one wins. Greece doesn't win. Their future is ****ed as well. Our future is beginning to look like being ****ed in the process. The way it's going now is sure to give us even worse future with inflation, unemployment, entrepreneurs are going to die in bunches in few years... it's going to be a downward spiral just like the video says. We didn't vote for this **** to happen, obviously. I'm so cruel myself I'd say let Greece burn, let's see what happens. Yeah it affects as even worse than the bail out money, but we need to do it now, IMO, than pump more and more money, squeeze the life out of few tax payers. Where do you think we get the money? We don't have the money, we loan the money first, and since we don't get it back, we won't naturally make any profit but end up paying for it, and in the meanwhile we once freaking again raise taxes, freeze raises and lose jobs, and make record cuts to public services.

So yeah, get a ****ing grip. We are the idiots here, helping these corrupt, rogue places. We're also corrupt and rogue. Yesterday we were already talking about getting out of debt ASAP and seeking possibilities outside these wastelands. Norway, perhaps, would be nice. We have our own problems without problems of the whole Europe. We need to focus on that. It'll kick us in the butt for sure if these places around us collapse but let's take a chance anyway. Yeah they scare us if we don't do as they say and pay up, but hey, let's stock food and stuff and ride this one out.

To some extent, I agree. It is going into the crapper fast right now.

It would be interesting to know if every generation has its battle against the system, and if this is the battle. This isn't US only, don't think about the Vietnam war as being a battle between generations. Of course the people taking sides are of all ages, but the real battle is fought by the younger folks for their future, joined by older folks, in essence the other generation as well.

It starts to resemble a battle of classes, but not in the classical way of class war.

But this is starting to be pretty global, the west is getting into it slowly but surely as well, as normal working and unemployed are getting screwed over. What can I say? You have to stand up for yourself and others.

It's not going to be what it used to be. People are too connected to be controlled by lack of knowledge. Sure, most are still kind of sheepish and wouldn't stand up but it's getting more and more difficult to keep ordinary folks down. It always starts with undermining the group of protestors, or how they are stupid, idiots, then some say how they are right but what they're doing is wrong etc useful idiots right there, never going to do anything anyway.

I've seen that same rhetoric used in here as well recently, by top politician, who usually just shut up. They've been using wordings with the prefix of "Un", as in unamerican. And of course, that is being directed at people who criticize current monetary policy and spending, bonuses and corruption. And of course, those people are just "loud minority". That's how it always begins. That means they're scared themselves right now. Sometimes changes happen, sometimes not, but it's good to humble some folks along the way so they remember stealing money has its risks.

                            Pekka,
I think it's much more complicated. What if people fight against the system, do you really think that's going to make things better? When has that ever done any good?

It is very complicated and I don't understand most of it. By the system, what is even meant by it, what is the problem here, who should do what if the world was fair, what are we/they really fighting for, how can it be achieved if we had all the tools and means to shape, who is we, is there a common goal... who knows. Right now it seems like lot of people are pissed off what how money is being distributed, and how wealth and things such as services (health and other services) work and the list is basically long but evolves around money and power. Lot of people have too little, few people have most of it. I think even this might not be the biggest issue with lot of people, but how ... how this go, I think it's just a general sense of things being unfair and unjust.

Can anyone really pinpoint it, is there a real consensus? Things are very complex.
