Well, I generally keep two books "in progress"--I pound away at one for a while, then when I get tired/run out of inspiration, I switch to the other. I've yet to produce anything I was satisfied with, but I have made a lot of words in electronic file. About 1,200 pages all told, and I hate most of it. I recently churned out a rewrite of a book I wrote earlier but wasn't satisfied with. So I tried rewriting from a different point of view. The idea was sound, but 8K words in I'm not at all satisfied, I think I have to rethink my approach. My other book is at 129K, two-thirds done and I don't hate it yet, but it's got major inconsistencies and errors to fix and I don't have the enthusiasm to try it.

    Damn.

I'm editing a 132,000 word rough draft of a novel at the moment. Or rather, I'm waiting for the girlfriend to finish her read through of it, at which point I'll rewrite about a third of it.

      This is an unusual threadjack.

Whatever you do, if you don't hate your readers as much as you hate us, refrain from writing the ****ing thing in those damn italics.

Sending excrement is not a very pleasant thing to do. I'm sure you don't mean that.

Two of Galnemer's published novels (so far) have been NaNoWriMo books. It's a great motivational tool.

How many of the words written in November did she actually end up keeping?

I'm not sure it matters, even if it's 0.

How many has she published so far? Based on what you've told us it seems like she's cranking them out like a machine (which is not supposed to sound like a bad thing).

I'm merely curious. My rough draft is the same novel I started last November and the way things look now I expect to keep about 0 of the November words.

Pretty much all of 'em, IIRC.
