"You can't have your cake and eat it too."

I don't get that one. What is the point of having a piece of cake then, if you're not suppose to eat it?

You can't hate it both ways. I think it makes sense.

when americans say "i could care less" about something it doesn't make any sense. the correct expression is "i couldn't care less".

Think of a wedding cake that is for show. It can't both be for show and be eaten. It's eventually one or the other.

I think that's something stupid people say, not Americans. Of course, there's a significant degree of overlap.

If there's one thing reading 15 years of meaningless debates on Apolyton has taught me, "that's because there's more of them" is an entirely appropriate response to such a statement.

Makes sense to me. You're basically saying, "I could care less, but I can't be arsed to." Which pretty much means you care as little as possible without putting anymore effort into not caring.

The excellent David Mitchell vid above explains, with graphs, why "could care less" is bollocks.

                      wd Dauphin for posting that.

The queen has nothing to do with this. He is joking about 'her' English.

I've already explained the meaning of the phrase. I can't help it if "her" english lacks nuance.
