        All the graphs show is that productivity increases have managed to keep production in terms of 2005 at modest increases.

        From 2000 until now manufcaturing labor particpation is down on the order of 30-35%. All that aside the idea that manufacturing rennassaince will lead to recovery given its relatively miniscule slice of the GPD pie is plainly wishful thinking.

        Of particular interest to this discussion is the contention that durable goods manufacturing will spur economic recovery and of that durable goods portion specifically machinery. Durable goods as whole represents 6 percent of GDP in 2009 while 13 percent back in 1979. You dont get much impact to the economy when the size of the sector is only 6%, might have made some small impact back when the economy was more heavily weighted to manufacturing, but not now conisdering the small participation rate and small overall piece of the GDP pie.
