  • Robert Reich & Bill O'Reilly Made My Day

I was watching Keith Olbermann and former Clinton Sec of Who Cares Robert Reich give a recap of the financial crisis by blaming Bush for the "ownership society" and then adding Clinton as an after thought - the ownership society these guys promoted was home ownership. Reich then let it slip, the problem was middle to lower class and poor people who should not have gotten housing loans... Bingo! The housing bubble was created by politicians pushing home ownership for higher risk people and then pushing the risk off on banks who tried to hide it on Wall St.

And then our beloved Bill O'Really topped it off by claiming that Muslim terrorists are Muslims, but Christian terrorists are not Christians. Okay Bill, does that mean the Catholic Church aint Christian because of all the people they've murdered. I think Bill's a Catholic

I've seen people here spouting that bull**** about Muslims and terrorism. Depressing.

Yes, but you forgot to add why politicians pushed for home ownership, that is: politicians in league with corporate hogs believe people who own a home (and a mortgage) are a lot less likely to go on strike since they have something important to lose. It's the ole fear of worker's rights! :whatasurprise:

          That's because you're an American.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Yes, that's right, promoting home ownership is just a big conspiracy to bust unions!

Makes a change from the view I saw expressed on the comments section of the Daily Telegraph which blamed the financial crisis on poor black people taking loans they couldn't afford.

Eh, don't renters have a similar deterrent? Or people who eat food for that matter?

If by "poor black people" you actually mean "middle class people of all races", then yeah that's about right.

The blame falls on poorly regulated (in the US) mortgage market and the idiots who assessed the risks of those sub-prime mortgages. Then the idiots who built overly complex financial instruments based on those idiotic mortgages. The idiots buying the sub-prime mortgages from the idiot banks following idiotic regulations is really just one aspect of the problem.

In Canada, it was unheard of to pay 0 down on a house...apparently it was quite popular in the US.

Hell, you get penalized if you pay less than 20% down at the time of purchase.
