"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "
Well, that and raising taxes to bring in more revenue. That typically helps offset deficits, if you increase your income...
It does, but it won't do enough. As it stands it simply can't do enough. Upping taxes may delay the problem but it won't solve it. The US has got a medicare system and pension designed around a fixed retirement age that hasn't gone up for decades. It's not even means tested. As life expectancy rises, costs rise with it. You couldn't raise taxes to deal with that problem fast enough if you tried. Which is not to say that anyone's trying yet: they're not. And it's not to say that the Democrats have a plan to do it: they don't. The Republicans and Democrats have not actually agreed to a plan to get the United States out of debt. They've agreed to a plan to get into more debt than before, albeit less debt than the Democrats previously demanded.
The Republican/Tea Party solution is if you cut trillions from the budget, costs will never go up
Nonsense.
and not only will they balance the budget, but repay that massive debt in a reasonable amount of time.
Given enough spending cuts, that can happen.
Yeah, it's pretty hilarious.
You've stated the Republican position. You've stated your conclusion: it's "hilarious". In between lies the reasoning and argument which is meant to convince the reader of your views. Well, that's where it would lie if you had the intellectual capacity or willingness to put forward a serious argument. Evidently you don't. And yet you expect everyone to agree with you. Now that is "hilarious."
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier
