    As Antonin Scalia put it:
"Those who believe that racial preferences can help to 'even the score' display, and reinforce, a manner of thinking about race that was the source of the injustice and that will, if it endures within our society, be the source of more injustice still."

    And elsewhere--
"Individuals who have been wronged by unlawful racial discrimination should be made whole...[But] [t]o pursue the concept of racial entitlement - even for the most admirable and benign of purposes - is to reinforce and preserve for future mischief the way of thinking that produced race slavery, race privilege and race hatred. In the eyes of government, we are just one race here. It is American."
Yeah this is the same guy who ruled on torture using references to 24.

"Jack Bauer saved Los Angeles. ... He saved hundreds of thousands of lives," Judge Scalia said. Then, recalling Season 2, where the agent's rough interrogation tactics saved California from a terrorist nuke, the Supreme Court judge etched a line in the sand.
"Are you going to convict Jack Bauer?" Judge Scalia challenged his fellow judges. "Say that criminal law is against him? 'You have the right to a jury trial?' Is any jury going to convict Jack Bauer? I don't think so.

Scalia is the most nakedly partisan political operative on the supreme court in over 200 years.

Nonsense. This "nakedly partisan" individual just recently ruled against prohibiting the sale of video games to minors because it violated the Free Speech amendment. For that matter, a "partisan" would plainly state that abortion is unconstitutional (never mind the fact that it is not), a matter which Scalia quite rightly and openly denies. Partisan indeed.

It is the quality of the ideas expressed, not his rhetorical abilities, which is in issue. What silliness to take issue with an analogy from a television show as if it indicates some terrible flaw in a judge's abilities.
I don't care what you think of Scalia, frankly: I quoted him because he eloquently expressed the danger inherent in affirmative action.

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

I believe I have the power of speech. In the intertubes, even the capacity for writing.

CFC now able to check it. Total of 27 posts. Started in 2002 ended in 2002. Perhaps a dabbling. I seriously have no recollection of the matter.
