Um, neither does CNG. The tanks are really really strong, and if the main line accidentally breaks, there's a safety valve that shuts outflow if it's larger than it should be.

Bottom line, it's much easier for a car to catch on fire due to gas than due to CNG.

You really dont know of what you speak here. Gasoline is a rather nasty substance. Fumes stay low to the ground accumulate in low area pockets read storm drains etc. The possibility of flash is always a possibility when it comes to EthOH and gasoline. CNG if leaking has the possibility of forming a torch but thats about it. If leaking in an air tight building it might cause issue at the higher elevations but otherwise easily disperses.

A good rule of thumb if you are parroting a position taken by Oerdin, you need to reevaluate your position.

Oh. I should probably stop lighting hobo fires at my friend's house then...

Yes you should. A spill of gasoline is not a trivial manner. Hence the reason fire departments usually spray the area in order to wash the spill and keep low spot ignitions less likely.

Also, a gasolin spill remains dangerous for a long time. A CNG leak will quickly diffuse to safe levels.

There have been very few instances of accidents in which the CNG equipment failed, and IIRC less than 10 deaths in the around 25 (maybe more?) years there have been CNG vehicles (and most of these in the early years, when the tanks were of poorer quality and didn't have security valves). Compound this with the fact that a large amount of the CNG fleet is made up of older cars.

As for autonomy, most vehicles over here are dual Gasoline/CNG, so there's always the chance to use both, and Gas stations which also have CNG pumps are becoming really common, at least in the main cities and along major highways that the only drawback really is the extra time taken (which helps reduce fatigue for long trips, so it's not that bad).

My dad used to manage some of the first CNG stations in the country (my grandfather set them up), so I've picked up a bit about this.
Interesting stuff. Thank you for telling us about them without Ogie-ing out.

I sometimes wonder how you guys manage to have civil debates in spite of all the name-calling.

                Oh wait, you don't.

                [Edit:]

                It sure is amusing, though

I also am against ethanol subsidies because it's not like we are actually going to have an energy crisis in the future. Fossil fuels may run out but when we need it we will have fusion power or solar power satellites that beam power down to the surface or maybe antimatter power plants if we can make it cheaply.
