  • Mormon Political Power

It surprises that two mormons would be in the U.S. presidential race. Most Americans only know the Mormons through there ads on TV that I've seen since I was a little kid. The adds basically promote some theme that you really can't disagree with like returning a lost purse. Then, It tells you that this message was brought to you by the church of jesus christ of latter day saints. So now we know that these are some really good christian guys, right? But we still don't know anything about them just from the commercial. IMHO, LDS is to christianity as Nation of Islam is to Islam.
Opinion aside, I just wonder if these commercials were really more political in nature, to get the american populace comfortable with the ideology and of potentially having a Mormon in power.

Why not? You currently have a Muslim in charge who isn't even American. Once the Mormons have completed the genealogy of the entire planet and posthumously converted everybody in their ritualised mass-marriages, we'll all be one happy family and we can dispense with nations and sovereignty and live happily ever after. :cloud9:

I really wish the mormons would stop baptizing my ancestors.

They practice a religion that is obviously made up by a con-man and believe crazy stuff. I don't know why people are whining about people like Romney running for office though.

I don't have a problem with Mitt Romney or any person running for office. Although he's not getting my vote. I don't have a problem with Mormons either. I just wonder if there are ulterior motives to the commercials. A lot of the commercials run and have during kids cartoons shows. As a child, I did not know anything about the Mormons other than those commercials. I did not really find out anything about them until I started reading books by L.E. Modesitt Jr(plug) that encouraged me to do a little research. So from voting ages 18-27 I really did not know enough to make an informed decision had a mormon been running for office. I do think religion matters in your voting choice because it gives you an idea of the principles that a person was raised on and ones they may promote once in office. Separation of church and state is a lot of times non-existent in politics.

I like Mitt Romney. He's the only Republican currently running that is not a crazy, even if he is a Mormon (strange, right?). And I think the only one who most definitely accepts evolution.

                It's a cult.

Why do I usually misread the word "Mormon" as being "moron?"
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

No, it's not, and I somewhat resent the idea that many of my friends are cultists. Cults are things like scientology or the moonies. Mormonism is not a cult.

The answer may lie in the final word of this sentence.

I'm sorry that you feel that way, but it is a cult. It's not that different from Scientology.

I'm not calling Mormonism a cult and everyone with the money can advertise. The question, have the ads been designed and targeted at the youth in particular for ulterior motives.

Some of the nicest people I know are Mormons. I don't understand the whole "no drugs, not even caffeine" bit, but whatever works for them is their business.

As far as presidents go, I don't support them because they're not keen on legalization. But if I had Mormon neighbors I'd be cool with that.
                              John Brown did nothing wrong.
