Obama is simply devaluing the Presidential Medal of Freeedom award. Akin to what Stockholm did for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Yeah, because it wasn't already devalued when Bush gave it to Tony Blair.

It's always been a bit of an "I Love You" to favored foreign leaders. Let's not pretend otherwise.

In the meantime, the Nobel Peace Prize has been pathetically stupid since they gave it to Henry Kissinger. Giving it to Yasir Arafat was the final nail in its coffin. At this point I think receiving it is more of an insult than an award. How fitting that they also gave it to Al Gore and Barack Obama.

Don't worry, HC, someday you'll grow up and have interesting opinions.

You're all grown up and still don't have any, as evidenced by that last post.

Ah yes, the venerable "I know you are but what am I?" defense. Very good.

You don't even have anything to say. All you do is throw insults around. At least I supplement that with opinions every once in a while.

Anyway, you're on the ignore list until someone quotes you saying something useful

Insults are more interesting that "LOL I have a cynical view of politicians"

Since that's what this entire thread is about, does that really seem like a legitimate complaint to you?

So many options here. Was it devalued due to:

                            a) The stature of the donor
                            b) The stature of the recipeint
                            c) The stature of the US as a nation
                            d) The insignificance of the UK
                            e) all of the above

I would think the recipient, just like with the award given to Merkel.

giving awards to people who the history will regard as manipulating destroyers, weakens the award in the long run, so in that respect Merkel is just a casual error which will be forgotten as soon as she disappears from the scene, while Blair is more of a permanent stain on the award.
