      To be fair they're pretty popular already.

      I've always found that argument dangerous. Removing funding for perfectly legitimate uncontroversial medical treatments just to try and starve the organization so badly it can't also perform a procedure that you don't like? Hyde already prevents your money being spent on it, why isn't that enough, why is it necessary to risk all the other services?

      • This is why I wish there were a pro-life equivalent. The good services are effectively being used as "human shields" for abortion here.

          Vote Cain in 2011 for OT President!
          Now I'm confused.

            The Hyde amendment is pathetic. It obviously subsidizes the funding of abortion by funding services they'd have to get anyway but don't have technically fall under the purview of "abortion". Money is fungible.

            As I like to say, Planned Parenthood should really be called Planned Genocide.

              It was the non-partisan, career Apolyton civil servants (namely MikeH) who brought Ben to justice, not President Asher.

                Human shields? Planned Parenthood are a good group who help millions of American women with a whole range of services they otherwise couldn't get access to. Just because you don't like one of those services doesn't make PP somehow the ones at fault for providing a perfectly legal service that a majority of American women want.

                  Perfectly legal != perfectly moral

                  Planned Parenthood is an awful organization. They provide related "reproductive services" but their primary purpose really is to be an abortion provider. There's really no reason they can't split the abortion services into a separate organization from the other ones. If providing those services was what they were really about, then they would stop providing abortions in the states that have been withholding subsidies because of the abortions.

                    Did you miss the part where abortion constitutes a gigantic 3% of what they do?

                    • Did you miss the part where that 3% is so critical that they won't stop doing it even if it means they lose ****loads of money? And the fact that they relentlessly advocate baby murder?

                        Oh and as for that, if you don't think its moral then get the law changed. Morality is subjective.

                        • Here’s why I support de-funding Planned Parenthood, because you don’t hear a lot of people talking about this, when Margaret Sanger - check my history - started Planned Parenthood, the objective was to put these centers in primarily black communities so they could help kill black babies before they came into the world.

                            They refuse to stop offering a perfectly legal service which women want just because a load of zealots keep trying to blackmail them.

                            • Uh, when Mitch Daniels passes a bill through the Indiana legislature, that isn't blackmail.

                              • HC, calm down, you're doing yourself no favors here. Ken, I meant that they are human shields in terms of federal funding. We can't defund abortion without defunding reasonable reproductive services as well. If there were a pro-life equivalent PP would be dead in the water; it'd suck away funding at lightning speed, leaving the country's most important abortion provider SOL. But no, the pro-life movement has to be largely run by zealots, which is why it's gained little traction for the past forty years.
