No. What you've done is completely avoided the point, like usual.

Does Australia charge people for said voter IDs? Does Australia have a constitutional mandate that people should never be charge any amount of money in order to vote? We do. Mainly because right wing conservatives here have, for hundreds of years, used such poll taxes as a way to systematically deny blacks, Indians, and other racial minorities their right to vote. Yet some how Republicans continually invent ways to attempt to prevent, or at least make it harder, for poor people to vote, often by inventing pseudo-poll taxes (like charging people money for an ID needed to vote even though it is unconstitutional to do so). If they really wanted to solve the problem and obey the constitution then they could simply issue everyone a voter ID card free of charge but do you notice they're not doing that? That's why they're law breaking criminals.

              • This, of course, completely ignores the fact that not a single example of actual voter fraud has been proven in a court of law in the last 20 years. Don't you think there should be some instance of voter fraud proven in court before we massively restrict voting rights in order to, supposedly, prevent said voter fraud? If not a single person has been found guilty of voter fraud by a jury in decades then maybe it isn't a very big problem and so really this isn't about voter fraud. Instead it is, as any halfway intelligent person already knows, ENTIRELY about voter suppression.

In Philly, the dead vote... only for Democrats, though.

                  • In illinois the dead also vote ....only for democrats.

We're used to seeing the other side here. The dems have control of both houses and the governor spot and have just finished redistricting. It is the most blatant bias job ever done. (since the repugs did it 10 years ago) It guarentees that they will control both houses after the next election regardless of how the people vote. It's allowed by the rules and which ever party is in control at the time takes advantage of it while the minority party always brings up ideas for reform. The dems are just as bad as the repugs. Either party's goal is to stay in power. Neither side has the high moral ground.

I agree with the general statement, but think that the Republicans act in much more obviously evil ways.

And I think this can be shown. The dead voting is, in some way, not as bad as baring the living (of certain classes) from voting.

                      • I think you see it as evil because the repugs best tactic is to get people not to vote while the Dems best tactic is to bribe more people to vote.
You think bribing winos with booze and cigarettes to vote for dems or faking dead peoples votes doesn't hurt anybody so it's not as evil as making it harder for some minorities to vote.
But they're both trying to influence an election. They're all wrong and therefore equally "EVIL".

Maybe so in Illinois. How many of your former governors are in jail?

No, he doesn't like it because he's a democrat.

JM, the right to stick a piece of paper in a ballot box isn't what's important here at all. I don't get some mystical buzz from having voted. If there were a brain scanner that just read everyone's mind and dreamed up the perfect candidate I'd be okay with that too. I'd even be okay with it if it just read a good sample of the voting population's mind and approximated. The point is that election results reflect the will of the electorate. Any means you use to cheat the election are wrong.

And frankly, in my mind, if you are too lazy to get a free voter ID and register and then actually vote without some Democrat get-out-the-vote group breathing down your neck, your opinion isn't worth that much anyway. That's why I don't think get-out-the-vote drives are particularly good. I have no problem with the inherent sample bias of an election.

                            • The City of Philadelphia thinks I'm two people. Somewhere along the lines, they mis-spelled my last name and somehow thinks there's me, and another person at the same address with my name spelled slightly differently. They also diligently send me an absentee ballot every election...

I could probably vote 3 times if I wanted to.

Get to vote 3 times? Now that's what I call voter empowerment! Right, Oerdin?
