"Congressman Weiner departed this morning to seek professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person," his spokeswoman Risa Heller was quoted as saying in news media.
She added that Mr Weiner would request a short leave of absence from the House of Representatives "so that he can get evaluated and map out a course of treatment to make himself well."

You guys throwing names around have missed two of the bigger ones:
Newt Gingrich - serial adulterer and worse (currently in office, dysfunctionally running for POTUS)
Gary Hart - extramarital affair (run out of town on a rail, despite the fact he was the clear Dem frontrunner in '87)
I like Bill Maher's take on Wiener last night, saying he had taken political sex affairs to a new low -- not because of what he did, but because he didn't even get laid.
Maher and Jane Lynch then did a full dramatic reading - verbatim - of one of Wiener's sexting exchanges. Totally worth the 4 minutes - hilarious!

Who really cares about this? Yes, the fact that he lied and tried to deny he propositioned a woman does matter slightly but really I don't care who politicians **** on their own time as long as they're of legal age and are a willing participant. It's clear Weiner didn't break any laws and since he still has around a 70% popularity in his district he is almost certain to get reelected so the whole issue doesn't matter. Now, with Spitzer there was the added complication that he used to prosecute people for prostitution and that prostitution is illegal but Weiner only made crude but wanted sexual advances so that's between him, the lady in question, and either of their spouses if they're married. If Weiner had been outspoken about family values or had publicly said out of wedlock sex was bad or even if he had grandstanded on the issue of infidelity I would concede there was an issue here but that didn't happen and I'm tired of Republican hypocrites who defended folks on their side who cheated on their wives suddenly claiming it's terrible that Weiner wanted to get his weiner into some chick.Last edited by Dinner; June 15, 2011, 10:32.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.Comment

I don't have a problem with his ethics. I have a problem that he's so stupid that he thought that sending a picture of his crotch was a good idea. I would like my legislators to have more common sense than that. It's like when celebrities of any type of dumb things at parties when they're surrounded by fans with cell phones capable of capturing the moment.
