  • Should Germany quit the Euro?

What is the Euro? A common currency or a german currency?

Should all countries, but Germany, leave the Euro?

Whats in the Euro for Germany? And for all the others?

What did Germany do to make so many people hate it?

maybe you could post in one of the other threads on the euro and the european debt crisis.

          In don't hate Germany.
          I just hate this situation.

The terapist is wrong and in denial!
The current logic is nuts: "You have less money, so I have to charge you more".

When I look at the greek ordeal I just wonder: "Was it really needed?"

Some fuel to the fire: A couple of days ago a most compreensive atlantic fish population study was released.
The fish population is DECREASING thanks to overcapture by some EU partners. And the EU does nothing...
Portugal has the largest and widest atlantic ZEE. It has high stakes on the sea but something is not going well.

Bottom line: I'm not a germany hater. I just dont like this set up.

What do you mean by "charge you more"? As I understand it, it's the markets "charging" Greece, Portugal et al more because of lower ratings, which were done because of their high debt problem combined with low economic potential.

Which in term is an internal problem.

Don't spend what you don't have and you won't have to nag at germany for doing exactely that.

And I know Belgian politicians are idiots for not aking control of our deficit/debt also.

You left out the key part: I have to charge you more when lending you more money.

If I had to guess I'd suspect your Iberian neighbor before the Germans there.

The point is exactly this one: I have to charge you more when lending you more money.

So, if the lender has the option to ask for more interest because the borrower may default, the borrower must have the option to recover the extra charge if he actually did not default!

If you can make that deal, do it. Otherwise you just find another guy to loan from. If your first guy offers you an unreasonable deal somebody else stands to make a profit by offering you the same deal cheaper.

Or don't loan at all. Cut your deficit down to zero. A radical solution perhaps but still a solution.

If a shopkeeper in your town sells his goods at extortionate prices you move on. When all shopkeepers in your town have extortionate prices one of two things are afoot: either your money ain't worth much, or they're colluding to screw you over. I will put you in the latter camp.

You think Portugal is completely fine and there is a world-wide conspiracy of bankers and German politicians determined to hold you down. Fine with me, if you convince enough people maybe you can get those people to buy your debt.

Look, I feel for you. You're in the **** and you probably didn't have much to do with putting you there, but the blame should be put first on your own politicians. The Germans are just looking out for their own. Why haven't yours been doing that?

I don't think much is in it for Germany to be so entwined with Portugal and Greece -- Portugal and Greece should be kicked out of the union.

Alternatively, Portugal and Greece should be allowed to declare bankruptcy and given no help by the others in the EMU.

why just portugal and greece? the country that would benefit most from an outright default (and by quite some distance, incidentally), is ireland.

I'm undecided about Ireland. For one, Ireland is a very advanced economy. Greece and Portugal aren't as much.

I would be interested in seeing the numbers backing up your default claim about Ireland (not skeptical, just interested).
