      You can't refuse every tanker... and even if you could, then we just pay the extra money to ship the oil back after it's unloaded in China. OH NO THE COST OF SHIPPING STUFF ACROSS THE PACIFIC WILL BANKRUPT US.

                        Homework time:

                        1) How many tankers haul CRUDE?
                        2) What is their capacity?
                        3) What is their speed (taking into account trucking regulations)?

                        Now compare that with the speed and capacity of, say, a ~500k barrel per day pipeline.

                          So it'd cost more. Oil prices would go up. Alberta would sell less oil. The US would consume less oil. Zounds!
